Airtel has highest 4G download speeds in India: Report

According to a report by London-based wireless coverage mapping agency OpenSignal, Bharti Airtel has the maximum 3G and 4G download speeds in India. The telecom company bagged the top spot in all three speed categories: 4G, 3G, and overall. Airtel clocked in an average download speed of 6 Mbps, with rival Reliance Jio coming a close second at 5.1 Mbps.
While Airtel emerged at the top in terms of overall national 4G speed, region-wise it was a different story. Idea Cellular topped in both West and East Uttar Pradesh, while Vodafone topped in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
Called the "State of Mobile Networks: India," the report stated that Jio topped in terms of 4G availability in the country. It beat Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea by at least 27 percentage points. "Our testers were able to find an LTE signal on RJio's network 96.4% of the time, up from 95.6% in our October report," the report added.
"Such a score is exceptional, reflecting RJio's commitment to building out a 4G-only network without 3G mobile data services to fall back on. Reliance Jio has managed to push its already world-class LTE availability rating even higher," the report stated.
OpenSignal conducted tests between December 2017 and February 2018 and found that of the 18 telecom circles it analyzed, Airtel topped 4G speeds in 10. The report also stated that the collective 4G availability threshold in India has increased for all major telecom operators in the last six months and currently stands at 65 percentage points.
