Apple wants $540,000 in legal fees after lawsuit dismissal

Business

Apple is asking for $540,000 to cover its legal fees after a price-fixing lawsuit against it and Amazon was dismissed.
The lawsuit, filed in 2022, claimed the two tech giants worked together to keep iPhone and iPad prices high on Amazon by limiting which resellers could sell their products.
The case was thrown out in September 2024 because the plaintiffs' legal team mishandled things—like searching for replacement plaintiffs after claiming the original plaintiff could not be reached.

Amazon seeks $1.4 million

Now, Apple and Amazon say the plaintiffs' lawyers acted in "bad faith," causing unnecessary work and costs—Amazon is even seeking $1.4 million.
They believe federal law has their back when it comes to getting reimbursed for legal fees due to misconduct.
But Steve Berman from Hagens Berman (the law firm that filed the suit) disagrees, saying Apple and Amazon aren't entitled to these fees and promising to fight their demands.
