What's the story

Ashish Hemrajani, the CEO of Big Tree Entertainment (BookMyShow's parent company), and the firm's technical head have received summons from the Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW). This is in relation to an ongoing probe into the alleged black market sales of tickets for the upcoming Coldplay concert. The two executives are scheduled to appear before the investigating officer today, to share their statements as part of this inquiry.

Allegations

Complaint alleges ticket resale at exorbitant prices

The summons came after Advocate Amit Vyas lodged a complaint, accusing BookMyShow of facilitating the ticket scalping for the highly awaited Coldplay concert. The concert will be held at DY Patil Stadium from January 19 to 21, 2025. Vyas claimed that tickets originally priced at ₹2,500 are being resold by third parties and influencers for as much as ₹3 lakh.

Legal action

Action sought against BookMyShow

Vyas has accused BookMyShow of pulling a fast one on the public and Coldplay fans. He's demanding that an FIR be filed against the company for fraud. The EOW has already taken Vyas's statement and has identified several brokers linked to the alleged ticket scalping. They're digging deeper, and more people are likely to be called in for questioning soon.
