Central banks bought 51 metric tons of gold in June

Central banks snapped up 51 metric tons of gold in June 2026, the biggest monthly haul this year, says the World Gold Council.

Poland led the pack with 19 metric tons, while China kept its buying streak alive for the 20th straight month.

Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Jordan, Ghana, and Georgia also added to their reserves.

Poland top H1 2026 gold buyer

In the first half of 2026, Poland was the top buyer overall (82 metric tons), followed by Uzbekistan (41), China (40), and Kazakhstan (27).

Meanwhile, Turkey sold off 83 metric tons.

Russia also sold 44 metric tons as it tried to handle budget pressures from sanctions and rising defense costs.
