App helps you find love based on what you hate

People often look for partners with whom they have much in common, especially mutual likes. Hater, a new dating app which will launch on February 8, will match people by tapping into their mutual hatreds. Hater's idea has scientific backing. A 2006 study by psychologists at the University of South Florida found that people form relationships more easily if they hate the same things.

Hater hopes to make online dating fun

"Hater is making serious online dating more approachable by replacing cumbersome surveys and bios with a fun, alternative way to express your personality," the app's website states.

How it works
Hater lets users express hatred for 2,000 topics

The app will ask its users how they feel about 2,000 topics, including gluten-free lifestyle, marijuana, selfies and Donald Trump! Users can swipe up if they love it, down if they hate it, right for like and left for dislike. A topic can be dismissed if users have no opinion. The app will select a group of like-minded haters who users can hook-up with.

Idea behind hater was actually a joke

Brendan Alper, Hater's CEO said he came up with the idea for the app as a joke. "The more I thought about it, the more I thought 'Hey even though this was a funny idea, it actually makes a lot of sense,'" he said.
