IIT Hyderabad startup's ArmAble is changing stroke rehab
BeAble Health, incubated at IIT Hyderabad, has launched ArmAble—an interactive gadget designed to help people recovering from strokes or upper limb motor deficits due to conditions like cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, fracture, or frozen shoulder.
Already in 50+ hospitals and used by nearly 7,000 patients, it turns tough therapy into engaging sessions with games based on familiar daily activities, such as making dosas or rolling chapati.
How does ArmAble work?
ArmAble is a plug-and-play console with adjustable handles for different grips.
It lets users do 400-600 active movements per day (way more than the usual 30), which helps speed up recovery by boosting brain rewiring.
Therapists can track every move remotely thanks to detailed data and cloud-based monitoring.
Why it matters for Indian hospitals
At ₹3 lakh, ArmAble is way more affordable than imported rehab robots like Hocoma (₹40 lakh) or Tyromotion (₹25-30 lakh).
With separate software subscriptions planned, it's a practical and budget-friendly option for hospitals looking to offer modern stroke rehab without breaking the bank.
