India is now top smartphone exporter to US, says Vaishnaw
India has officially outpaced China as the top smartphone exporter to the US, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared.
Calling it "a huge achievement for our country," he noted that about 20% of manufacturing from some of the world's biggest brands now happens right here in India.
Smartphone exports surged by 60% this fiscal
Between April and September 2026, India's smartphone exports jumped 60%, hitting $13.5 billion—up from $8.5 billion during the same months last year.
The big boost came with the iPhone 17 launch, which pushed shipments up by 95% year-on-year in September alone.
Apple is among the leading companies ramping up production in India, which now accounts for about 20% of output for some major brands, thanks to government pushes like Make in India and Production Linked Incentives.
India overtakes China in smartphone exports to US
Research firm Canalys confirmed that in the second quarter of 2025, India had taken China's spot as America's main smartphone supplier.
It's a big moment for Indian manufacturing—and shows how government support is helping local tech go global.
