India-UK free trade agreement expected by July
India and the UK are on track to sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the end of July.
This deal aims to make things cheaper for both sides—think no more tariffs on Indian goods like leather and clothes, and lower prices for British whiskey and cars coming into India.
The bigger goal? To double trade between the two countries to $120 billion by 2030.
TL;DR
FTA will need approvals from both governments
Right now, officials are ironing out the final legal details. Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal is in London meeting his UK counterpart, Jonathan Reynolds, to speed things up.
Once signed, the FTA will need green lights from both governments before it kicks in fully—likely about a year from now.
The full agreement will be made public after signing, so everyone can see what's inside.
