Indian travel insurance sales soar 43% in 2024: Report
Travel insurance sales in India jumped 43% last year, with 11,979 policies sold between January and October—up from about 8,400 the previous year.
The big boost comes from more first-time flyers and short-haul travelers realizing the value of coverage.
Affordable coverage is the top pick
Most buyers (86%) went for a basic ₹50,000 sum insured, likely because premiums start as low as ₹49—making it an easy add-on to trip costs.
Only a small fraction chose higher coverage amounts.
Young solo travelers lead the way
Gen Z and millennials made up 90% of outbound trips, with solo travel especially popular (nearly two-thirds).
Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai saw the biggest growth in travel insurance adoption.
Why it matters for young travelers
The report highlights that affordable travel insurance helps young adventurers stay protected against flight delays or medical issues abroad—especially important for those traveling alone or heading out for the first time.
