JioHotstar brings Swiggy food delivery directly into live IPL streams
What's the story
JioHotstar has partnered with Swiggy to offer an in-app food ordering feature. The new capability will let users order meals while watching live sports streams, without leaving the platform. Currently, the feature is available across over 690 cities in India and has already been used by over 37 million viewers during the ongoing cricket season.
User experience
Users can browse restaurants and track deliveries
The new feature is specifically designed for mobile users. It lets viewers browse restaurants, view match-related offers, place orders, and track deliveries directly within the JioHotstar app. The companies said this integration brings together live sports streaming and real-time commerce through contextual prompts and in-stream transactions.
Ordering trends
Biryani is no longer the most-ordered dish
Burgers have emerged as the most ordered food item during live cricket matches, beating biryani. One user even placed 34 separate orders in a season, while another ordered over 100 burgers in one go. The companies also shared other interesting trends from the ongoing season such as a single order worth ₹6,801 and another user saving up to ₹12,947 through live-match offers.
Delivery speed
Trends in food ordering during live matches
The fastest delivery through this feature was completed in 10 minutes and 42 seconds. Mumbai Indians matches saw the highest overall ordering volumes on the platform, while a match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals saw the highest spike in orders during a single game. Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Delhi topped overall ordering activity with Patna and Pune also contributing.
