Nearly half of US imports now face Trump-era tariffs

Business

Nearly 50% of everything shipped into the US is now hit with tariffs, a sharp rise since President Trump dramatically increased these trade barriers in 2025.
A significant portion of these tariffs use emergency powers, like the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, covering about 29% of imports, and cover a wide range of products, including electronics.

Why does it matter?

These tariffs have made imported goods more expensive and boosted government revenue by about $80 billion.
China and the EU are especially affected—China faces over 40% average tariffs, while about 60% of EU goods are taxed.
Meanwhile, Canada and Mexico mostly avoid these emergency fees thanks to their trade deal with the US.
The Supreme Court is now reviewing if these emergency tariffs are even legal—a decision that could change how future presidents handle global trade.
