NPS-APY's combined AUM crosses ₹16 lakh crore—Pension savings boom in 2025
India's National Pension System (NPS) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) now manage over ₹16 lakh crore, thanks to a big jump in subscribers—over 9 crore people as of October.
This year alone, more than 12 lakh private-sector workers joined NPS, pushing its private sector total to 1.65 crore.
APY and NPS are growing fast—even for kids
APY added 1.17 crore new members this year, hitting a total of 7.6 crore—its third straight year with over a crore newcomers.
Even kids are getting covered: since September, the NPS Vatsalya scheme has enrolled over a lakh children.
Reforms and big plans ahead
Recent changes let users have more investment options (including up to 100% equity that tapers with age), which is helping boost returns—NPS has averaged over 9% annual growth for the past 14 years.
The pension regulator now wants to reach an ambitious target: covering 25 crore private-sector workers in five years through expanded outreach across India.
