OpenAI and TCS team up to build India's next-gen AI powerhouses

Business

OpenAI (the ChatGPT folks) is in advanced talks to partner with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to create AI infrastructure in India.
By tapping into TCS's new HyperVault data centers, they're aiming to make India a major hub for building and running advanced AI—while helping TCS chase its goal of becoming the world's largest AI-led services company.

What's actually happening?

OpenAI plans to lease at least 500 MW of HyperVault's data center capacity—think massive computing muscle—to train and deploy AI models right here in India.
It means faster, more powerful AI for a range of users, from corporate clients to government entities, all while meeting local rules about where data lives.

Why does this matter?

India has the world's second-biggest ChatGPT user base and its AI market could hit $22 billion by 2027.
This partnership puts TCS and OpenAI right in the middle of that growth—and sets them up against big names like Reliance and Google in the race for India's booming AI future.
