Paytm, Google Pay now let you create custom UPI IDs
What's the story
Paytm and Google Pay have launched a new feature that lets users personalize their Unified Payments Interface (UPI) IDs. The change comes as a response to the increasing number of scams targeting unsuspecting users by tricking them into revealing sensitive details linked to their UPI IDs. Now, instead of having an ID directly linked to their mobile number, users can create customized ones with letters and numbers for added security.
User guide
Creating a personalized UPI ID on Paytm
Creating a customized UPI ID on Paytm is pretty simple. Just open the app, tap on your profile icon at the top left corner, and scroll down to 'UPI & Payment settings.' From there, you can view all your linked UPI accounts and IDs. By tapping 'View,' you can see your current UPI ID and create a new one using alphabets and digits. You can even set up backup IDs to avoid transaction failures.
Security enhancement
Personalized UPI IDs and new regulations
The introduction of personalized UPI IDs is a major step toward improving security and user confidence in digital payments. The move also comes as regulators have asked apps to tighten controls on payment requests, with stricter rules coming into effect from October 2. With these changes, Paytm and Google Pay are making strides toward making digital transactions not just faster but also safer for millions of Indians.
