Now you can send, receive money using BHIM-UPI on Paytm

After introducing Paytm "Inbox" in-app messaging feature, the Indian digital payments leader has now launched yet another exciting feature. Paytm has integrated BHIM UPI (Unified Payments Interface) on its app with an aim to become the largest issuer and acquirer of UPI over time, in India. Users can make or receive payments using BHIM UPI from Paytm itself without switching apps. Here's more!

Paytm to double its user base with BHIM UPI

Paytm currently has about 100-million monthly users; with BHIM UPI integration, the digital payments player aims to widen its user base and expand its usability. Paytm Founder, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, said, "We are now targeting 200 million monthly users in less than two years." Paytm BHIM UPI is being tested as beta in Android app. iOS users will also receive the feature soon.

    About BHIM UPI payment service

BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) is a digital payments application developed by the National Payments Corp. of India (NPCI). BHIM uses the government-managed UPI (Universal Payments Interface) network for easy transactions. Users can create their own UPI ID and link their bank accounts. The UPI ID can be used to transfer money and can also be shared with others to receive payments.

    Features of UPI

Bank customers are identified with virtual addresses on UPI that can be shared with others for the purpose of facilitating transactions. Utility bills, over-the-counter payments, COD transactions etc. can also be made through UPI. 24x7 inter-bank electronic fund transfers across the country will be possible with UPI. This mobile payment mechanism also provides round-the-clock availability and faster checkouts.

Create your own Paytm BHIM UPI ID

Paytm users can now link their existing BHIM UPI IDs on Paytm to send/receive money from within the app. The feature allows users to create new BHIM accounts as well. By default, the Paytm BHIM UPI ID would be user-mobile-number@paytm. Users can then link their bank account with the unique ID, which is accepted across all banks and BHIM apps.

Users can link multiple bank accounts with UPI

After registration, users can change the BHIM UPI ID (mobile-number@paytm) later as per their convenience. It can also be linked to multiple bank accounts. In case they wish to link several bank accounts with the UPI ID, users need to choose a primary account for sending/receiving money on Paytm. They are also free to change their primary bank account anytime.

UPI allows quick, easy 24x7 inter-bank transfers

With Paytm BHIM UPI, users can make seamless, instant, and direct inter-bank transfers, without even adding beneficiaries. They don't need bank details for transactions. For sending money, users require the receiver's UPI ID; and, for receiving, they need to provide their ID to the sender. Paytm merchants can link multiple bank accounts and choose which one they want to use for receiving money.

Can't make Paytm Wallet transactions using UPI ID

It is important to note that users cannot use UPI IDs on Paytm Wallet; they are two separate entities that function differently. Also, according to NPCI, users can only send up to Rs. 1,00,000/day using BHIM UPI; there is no such limit on receiving payments.
