Propel offers $50 payments to help SNAP users

Business

SNAP payments have been delayed since November 1, leaving millions worried about groceries.
Brooklyn-based startup Propel, whose app helps about five million people manage their SNAP benefits, is now offering $50 to the hardest-hit users—especially families with kids and low incomes.
CEO Jimmy Chen says he knows how tough food insecurity can be and wants to help ease the stress while government payments are on hold.

Propel has raised $6 million so far

Propel has teamed up with groups like Robin Hood and GiveDirectly, raising $6 million so far toward a $10 million goal for this relief effort.
While it's not enough to cover all SNAP needs (the government usually spends $8 billion a month), every bit helps as some recipients face months-long waits due to legal and funding issues.
