RBI elevates Sonali Sen Gupta to Executive Director

The Reserve Bank of India just promoted Sonali Sen Gupta to Executive Director, starting October 9, 2025.
She previously led RBI's Karnataka operations and steps up as Shirish Chandra Murmu becomes Deputy Governor the same day.

Sen Gupta's extensive career at RBI

With over 30 years at RBI, Sen Gupta now heads key departments like Consumer Education and Protection, Financial Inclusion and Development, and Inspection.
She also represents RBI on Indian Overseas Bank's Board.
These leadership changes come as Sanjay Kumar Hansda returns from the IMF to lead Economic and Policy Research at RBI—marking a fresh chapter for the central bank's top team.
