Samsung wants PLI boost to make phone screens in India

Business

Samsung is looking to tap into India's Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme again—this time to manufacture mobile-phone displays at its Noida plant.
After completing its five-year smartphone PLI run, which ended in March 2025, Samsung now hopes to help turn India into a global tech manufacturing hub.

How's Samsung doing with PLI so far?

It's been a bit of a rollercoaster: Samsung hit its FY21 targets after some review but missed out in FY22 thanks to COVID-19 hiccups.
Still, it bounced back and by FY25, exports made up 42% of its revenue in India—a big jump, with export value rising 37% to over ₹1 lakh crore.

What's next for Noida and the Android scene?

The Noida display project is waiting for approval.
JB Park (President, Southwest Asia) says there are no plans to move operations abroad and he's open to using more Indian-made chips down the line.
Even as Apple gains ground in the premium space, Samsung still rules Android here with a massive 90% market share.
