SBI's Ashwini Kumar Tewari gets another 2 years as MD

Business

Ashwini Kumar Tewari has been re-appointed as Managing Director of State Bank of India (SBI), with his new term running until December 31, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
This is his second extension since he first took over in 2021, and comes just as SBI reported a solid 10% jump in profits for Q2 FY26.

Why does this matter?

Keeping Tewari at the helm means stability for India's biggest bank—especially after its recent financial wins.
On the day of his re-appointment, SBI shares even ticked up by 1.58%.
For a bank that plays such a big role in the country's economy, steady leadership makes a real difference.

Who is Ashwini Kumar Tewari?

Tewari joined SBI way back in 1991 as a probationary officer and has climbed through roles like MD & CEO of SBI Cards and was elevated from Deputy MD to MD in 2021.
His journey shows how you can grow within an organization if you stick with it and keep learning.
