With over 150,000 tech layoffs in 2024 and 63,823 in the first half of 2025, it's clear that automation is shaking up how companies work—and who they hire.

Humans still have a role to play

Even with this big push toward automation, these CEOs aren't writing people off completely.
Von Ahn points out that new hires will only happen where humans can do what AI can't.
Lutke agrees: if a job needs a person instead of an algorithm, it has to be for a good reason.
So while AI is taking over some tasks, there's still space for real people—especially where creativity and judgment count.
