Xpheno: India tech hiring slips 8% to 110,000 in April
Business
India's tech sector kicked off fiscal 2027 with 110,000 active job openings in April 2026, down 8% from last month, says Xpheno.
Entry-level roles stayed flat at 15,000 and are now just 14% of total demand, while mid- to senior-level jobs dominate.
It's a tough start for freshers, but not the whole story.
Tier-two and tier-three hiring rises 10%
IT services, the sector's biggest employer, saw job openings fall by 7%, and big cities like Delhi NCR took the hardest hit with a steep 41% drop.
But here's an interesting shift: hiring in tier-two and tier-three cities actually grew by 10%.
Even with this dip, overall demand is still up 7% compared to last year, so there's some hope for those on the hunt.
