What's the story

Deepinder Goyal, the co-founder and CEO of Zomato, has shown interest in working with business and product leaders who are skilled in AI. In a post on X, Goyal wrote, "I am looking to work with business and product leaders who have already started using AI as their second brain." Separately, in response to a comment on his post, the entrepreneur endorsed the benefits of AI technology. He said, "My productivity is up multiple times since I embraced it."

Recruitment strategy

Goyal's unique approach to recruitment

Goyal has a penchant for unconventional recruitment. In November last year, he posted an opening for the role of chief of staff on X, which received over 10,000 applications. The job initially came with no salary for the first year and a clause (later removed) that asked the successful candidate to donate ₹20 lakh to Zomato's Feeding India initiative.

AI strategy

Zomato's stance on AI in contrast to Swiggy

Notably, Zomato has taken a different approach to AI than its competitor Swiggy. Last year, Zomato banned AI-generated images from restaurant menus and promotional material. On the other hand, Swiggy introduced an AI-powered menu makeover in November 2023, enabling restaurant partners to use AI for validating and improving their menu images.

Product innovation

Swiggy's AI-driven product for decision-making

Swiggy has also launched an AI-driven product to make decision-making more fun and easier. The innovative tool, called neural search, lets users search with conversational and open-ended queries. It then offers recommendations specifically tailored to their needs, showcasing Swiggy's commitment to using AI technology for the sake of its customers.
