A 23-year-old man was arrested in Delhi for allegedly blackmailing his ex-girlfriend for money by threatening to upload her private videos and photos on social media, police said on Tuesday. A senior police officer said that the complainant alleged that someone had hacked her Facebook account through which she shared some private videos and photos with her ex-boyfriend. The Times of India had reported that the incident came to notice after a woman at Seemapuri Police Station lodged a complaint that someone was using her private photos and videos to blackmail her.

Woman gave Rs. 15,000 but blackmailer was demanding more money

"The woman stated that she had already paid Rs. 15,000 to the blackmailer but he demanded Rs. 15,000 more, after which she lodged the complaint," the officer said. "During the investigation, the police analyzed the mobile phone of her ex-boyfriend, Shubham Sharma, a resident of Gali Arya Samaj, and apprehended him on Monday," the officer added.

Interrogation revealed that Sharma was under debt and after the woman broke up with him, he used another phone number to contact her. He told her that he had hacked her Facebook account and downloaded her private videos and photos. "He threatened to upload the content on social media if she refused to give him money," the officer said.

Officials reached out to Facebook for the accused's details

The official said, "Multiple teams were set up and efforts to collect his details from Facebook were made. As per the details shared by Facebook, an IP address of Vodafone came to our notice, but the mobile phone was registered on a fake ID." "When the blackmailer again demanded Rs. 15000 through a virtual number, our cyber-cell analyzed the number," he added.

The official said that the victim's ex-boyfriend came under suspicion and was arrested after the probe. "Three mobile phones, four sim cards, and one pen drive containing the videos and photos were recovered from his possession," the police added.
