Delhi records warmest February day in last 15 years
Delhi on Wednesday recorded February's warmest day in the last 15 years, with the maximum temperature settling at 32.5 degree Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Delhiites woke up to a warm and humid morning with the humidity levels shooting up to 100 percent and the minimum temperature settling a notch above normal. The maximum temperature on Tuesday was 31.5 degree Celsius.
Highest temperature recorded in February over the years
As per the data provided by the MeT department, the last highest temperature in the month of February was recorded in the year 2006 at 34.1 degree Celsius. Between 2009 and 2020, the highest temperature recorded in February was 32.4 degree Celsius in 2017.
Minimum temperature has also gone above normal
"The minimum temperature was recorded at 12 degree Celsius, a notch above normal, and the humidity was 100 percent," a MeT Department official said on Wednesday. According to the figures, the highest temperature recorded in February last year was 27.8 degree Celsius, 28.1 degree Celsius in 2019 while in 2018, it hiked up to 32 degree Celsius.
Winter chill is over, be ready for warmer days
India Meteorological Department (IMD), at the beginning of the week, had predicted a rise in temperature and warmer days ahead. Kuldeep Srivastava, a scientist at IMD and head of Regional Weather Forecasting Centre, said, "There will be a gradual increase in both minimum and maximum temperatures. The winter chill is over and there is no prediction of cold wave or cold day conditions."
