Delhi rains break 10 year old record
Delhiites woke up to fresh spells of heavy rainfall and thick cloud cover on Friday morning. The city received 175.4 mm rainfall in June so far, making it the maximum in the last ten years. The MET department has forecasted cloudy weather along with a possibility of light-moderate rains for Friday. The monsoon, however, will arrive in Delhi in the next 24-48 hours.
Voters
Only 20% of 18-year-old Delhiites can vote
In a bid to enrol as many voters between the age of 18-21 years, the Election Commission would launch a month-long drive from Saturday onwards. As per the latest data, only 21% of 18-year-old youths are registered for voting in Delhi and only 35% of 19-year-olds have a voting card. Booth-level officers will conduct door-to-door visits in order to carry out registration.

80% of McDonald's restaurants in Delhi to shut down
McDonald's, counted among the world's largest burger chains, would close down keep 80% of its outlets in Delhi. Vikram Bakshi, former MD of Connaught Plaza Restaurants (CPRL), which runs 160 McDonald's restaurants said, "This is a temporary shutdown due to expiry of operating licenses and not a closure." According to insiders, another reason is ongoing legal fight between Bakshi and the US-headquartered restaurant chain.

Delhi HC overrides President's order rejecting mercy-plea of death-row convict
The Delhi High Court overrode the President's order rejecting the mercy plea of death-row convict, Sonu Sardar and reduced his sentence to life imprisonment. Sardar had killed five members of a family, including two children, during a robbery in Chhattisgarh's Cher village in 2004. The HC's division bench said the presidential order rejecting the convict's appeal for mercy was impaired.

Teenagers beat a man to death with bat in Delhi
22-year-old Angad Gupta was allegedly beaten to death with a cricket bat by two minors when he rebuked them about playing in the playground instead of the street as their ball hit him in the stomach. The minors had fled from the scene and they were later apprehended by the police. They will be produced before Juvenile Justice Board.
