Among the two major sections of Delhi Metro Pink Line that will be inaugurated in June, one was tested yesterday. A trial run of the 8.1 km Lajpat Nagar-Sir Vishweshwaraiah Moti Bagh section was conducted to check for 'physical infringement with civil infrastructure' and 'various subsystems of coaches,' said DMRC. The section is part of the 59-km long Pink Line (Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor).

What all did DMRC check during the trial?

"The train's response at different speeds, braking of the train and interconnection with Operations Control Centre will be monitored during trials. The behavior of track system and Over Head Electrification will also be checked," DMRC had said before MD Mangu Singh flagged off the tests.

This stretch will be a major hit among shoppers

This stretch is bound to be a shopper's favorite as it will meander through major markets like Sarojini Nagar, INA, South Extension and Lajpat Nagar. This corridor will have six stations: Sir Vishweshwaraih Moti Bagh, Bhikaji Cama Place, Sarojini Nagar, INA (interchange), South Extension, and Lajpat Nagar (interchange). The other section that will be opened in June is between Shiv Vihar and Trilokpuri.

After June, Lajpat Nagar will be major interchange station

Currently, Lajpat Nagar is connected to the metro network via Violet Line (Kashmere Gate-Escorts Mujesar). After the Pink Line opens up, it'll be an interchange station for commuters from West-Delhi (Shakarpur, Punjabi Bagh, Rajouri Garden and Mayapuri) and North-Delhi (Majlis Park, Azadpur, Shalimar Bagh, Keshav Puram and Netaji Subhash Place). Even Faridabad, Central-Delhi and Old-Delhi will get connected to Lajpat Nagar after June.

Commuters are already using a 21.56-km-long segment of Pink Line

Last month, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Union Minister Hardeep S Puri inaugurated a 21.56-km-long segment of Pink Line connecting South and NW-Delhi, thus making it easier for airport-bound people traveling from West Delhi. The line also connects north and south campuses of DU. There are 12 stations in this route including Majlis Park, Azadpur, Shalimar Bagh, Rajouri-Garden and Netaji Subhash Place, among others.
