Akshay Kumar-led 'Prithviraj' vs. 'Govinda Naam Mera' on June 10
Akshay Kumar-led historical action drama Prithviraj now has a new release date. The film will hit the theaters on June 10, directly clashing with Govinda Naam Mera, which stars Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani, and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles. In Prithviraj, Kumar essays the titular role, while Manushi Chillar plays Sanyogita, one of the three wives of the mighty ruler.
Kumar announced release date in style on social media
Announcing the new release date on social media, Kumar wrote, "The grand Samrat #Prithviraj Chauhan's historic journey is coming to the big screen on 10th June in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu (sic)." He also shared motion posters for Chillar, Sonu Sood, and Sanjay Dutt's characters. The posters' background score and graphics are captivating. Manav Vij, Ashutosh Rana, and Sakshi Tanwar round up the cast.

Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Prithviraj was earlier slated to release on January 21, 2022. However, it eventually got delayed due to a rise in COVID-19 cases in India. The period drama, in which Kumar plays a real-life king for the first time, comes seven days after Maidaan, a sports drama in which Ajay Devgn essays the role of ex-Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim.

Its teaser was dropped in November last year
The film's teaser, which was released in November last year, had introduced us to "Hindustan ka Sher [Hindustan's Lion]" Prithviraj Chauhan. The clip opened on a massive battlefield, where the warrior, Chauhan, fought with the invader, Muhammad of Ghor (Vij). Yash Raj Films has produced Prithviraj, while the famed musical trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has composed the songs for the film.
Know about its competitor, 'Govinda Naam Mera'
Meanwhile, its competitor, Govinda Naam Mera, is a Dharma Productions-backed film. Interestingly, Karan Johar, who owns Dharma Productions, is a relative and good friend of Aditya Chopra, the owner of Yash Raj Films. So, the clash between the ventures backed by them definitely looks fascinating. But since Govinda Naam Mera and Prithviraj belong to different genres, both films might do good, too.
