Anoushka Shankar's sitar gets damaged on Air India flight

Entertainment

Sitar maestro Anoushka Shankar shared on Instagram that her sitar was cracked during an Air India flight—something she says has never happened in 15 or 17 years of traveling with her instrument.
She expressed real disappointment, especially since she'd used protective cases and paid extra for careful handling, yet still ended up worrying about how her sitar was treated.

How Air India and the music community are responding

Air India is now checking CCTV footage from Delhi airport to figure out what went wrong, and says it regrets the incident given how important the instrument is.
Fellow artists like Zakir Khan and Vishal Dadlani have shown support, calling it heartbreaking.
Sadly, this isn't the first time Shankar's travels have led to trouble—she's lost important items before while touring.
