Entertainment

AR Rahman just introduced Rooh-e-Noor, an all-women band under his KM Musiq label.
Led by his daughter Khatija Rahman and headed by Kannika Urs, the six-member group wants to inspire with the power of women's voices.
The name means "Soul of Light," capturing their mission to connect and uplift.

Catch them live at Sharjah's Tanweer Festival next month

Rooh-e-Noor will hit the stage for the first time at the Tanweer Festival in Sharjah on November 21, 2025.
The lineup includes vocal trainers Pooja Tiwari and Shaoni Mojumdar, music supervisors Amina Rafiq and Shifa Ruby, plus production support from Sana Aziz, Sarthak Kalyani, and Nakul Abhyankar.
Expect reimagined classics, film tracks, and spiritual Sufi-inspired performances—whirling dervish dance included.

Band aims to inspire more women through music

All-women bands are pretty rare in India (think Viva or W.I.S.H), so Rooh-e-Noor is hoping to break new ground with their blend of modern sound and cultural roots.
As Rahman puts it: "Rooh-e-Noor isn't just a band, it's a light that connects hearts. Each of these women carries the confidence of modern artistry. Their collective voice is pure, powerful, rooted, and futuristic."
Their goal? To inspire more women through music while adding something fresh to India's music scene.
