What's the story

The Assam Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) has summoned Tarsem Mittal, the former manager of late singer Zubeen Garg, for questioning. The interrogation is part of an ongoing probe into Garg's death in Singapore on September 19. Allegations against Mittal have surfaced during the investigation, prompting his appearance before the SIT on Friday.

Investigation focus

Mittal's financial dealings under scrutiny

Mittal, who managed Garg's professional affairs for a long time, has been questioned about his financial dealings and association with Siddharth Sharma. Sharma was introduced to Garg by Mittal a few years ago and later took over as the singer's manager. The SIT believes that the close professional relationship between Mittal and Sharma could provide important clues into the alleged fund misappropriation before Garg's death.

Investigation update

Seven arrests made so far

The SIT has so far arrested seven people in connection with Garg's death, including Sharma. The others in custody are the event organizer in Singapore, Shyamkanu Mahanta; Garg's cousin and police officer Sandipan Garg; two of his band members, Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta; and two state police security personnel assigned to the singer, Nandeshwar Bora and Paresh Baishya. The charges against them include criminal conspiracy, murder, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and negligence leading to death.

Post-mortem report

Singapore police ruled out foul play

The Singapore Police, meanwhile, have ruled out foul play in Garg's death. They released a post-mortem report on October 17, which confirmed that the cause of death was drowning. However, they also stated that the investigation is still ongoing and another report may be issued after 90 days. SIT chief Munna Prasad Gupta said last month that the chargesheet would be filed on time, likely between December 8 and 10, ahead of the December 17 deadline.
