
'Thamma' rooted in Indian folklore, not vampire tales: Ayushmann
What's the story
Ayushmann Khurrana has clarified that his upcoming film Thamma isn't about vampires but betaals from Indian folklore. Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, he said, "Hum isko bolte hain betaalism (not vampirism). Betaal hai, vampire nahi." He also revealed that the title was inspired by the mythological warrior Ashwatthama and credited producer Dinesh Vijan for his innovative vision for this horror-comedy.

Khurrana further explained, "It's based on Indian folklore." "Thamma humare film ka naam hai; Ashwatthama se iska [naam nikla hai] (Our film's title is Thamma, which has been derived from Ashwatthama)." He added, "Thamma from Ashwatthama, Dinesh Vijan hain yeh. Unhone ye idea nikala and the most powerful betaal is Thamma." The movie also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles.
Release date
'Thamma' to clash with 'Deewaniyat'
The film will be released on October 21, making it the fifth entry in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, who also helmed Munjya from this universe, Thamma will face competition from Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat at the box office. The latter stars Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa.
