Amitabh Bachchan shares bedridden photo; recovering from 'Don'-era injuries

What's the story

Veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has been bedridden the past few days as his health has taken a hit. The 77-year-old actor, who has been on bed rest since Thursday, recently shared a picture of him lying on what looked like a hospital bed. Bachchan also had to cancel his scheduled presence at the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival on account of his health.

Bachchan tweeted image of him watching football from bed

In the photo, Bachchan could be seen watching football on television from his bed. He wrote, "The Fowler, the socks and the Premier League .. all day long .. in recouped state attempt." In earlier tweets, he had mentioned his medical condition. He also apologized for being unable to attend KIFF, adding that he would make up for it someday.

On his blog, Bachchan elaborated on his health, saying, "The leftovers of incidents from the times of DON and the cracks and breaks now playing up .. placing themselves in important avenues which restrict movement." Referencing Kaun Banega Crorepati, he wrote, "Reminiscing the work front by the day after .. when there shall be the chair and the computer ji and the audience."

History

Bachchan had had near-fatal accident while filming 'Coolie' in 1982

For the uninitiated, on the sets of his 1983 film Coolie, Bachchan had had a near-fatal accident. While filming a fight scene with co-star Puneet Issar on July 24, 1982, Bachchan sustained severe injuries on his abdomen. He fell unconscious after the accident, owing to severe blood loss. It took him several months of recovery to bounce back to work.

He is suffering a lot: Mamata Banerjee at KIFF

In the blog, Bachchan again apologized for his absence at KIFF. Speaking at the KIFF inauguration on Friday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "Amitabhji comes here every time. But he couldn't turn up. Since last night he is unwell. So doctors have restricted his movements. He is suffering a lot since last night." In Bachchan's absence, Shah Rukh Khan opened the festival.
