Civil society group criticizes BJP for 'The Bengal Files'
A new film called The Bengal Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri and set to release on September 5, is drawing criticism from civil society group Desh Bachao Ganamancha.
They claim the movie—allegedly used by the BJP—aims to stir up communal tensions in West Bengal under the guise of depicting 1940s violence, and see it as part of an election strategy.
'The Bengal Files...': Kashmir Files comparison
Former minister Purnendu Basu compared The Bengal Files to Agnihotri's earlier film The Kashmir Files, accusing both of twisting history for political gain.
Critics are also upset about scenes like a burning effigy of Goddess Durga, saying such portrayals misrepresent Bengali culture.
Public figures like singer Saikat Mitra have voiced their concerns too, promising to stand together against any attempts to divide the community or distort its heritage.
