What's the story

In a quirky move, a college in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru, has declared a holiday on Thursday to celebrate the release of Malayalam film star Mohanlal's new movie. The institution's Managing Director, an ardent fan of the actor, has booked two screens at YGR Mall to hold an exclusive screening for students, families, and staff. This is to promote a happy college life and steer students away from bad habits.

The college, called Good Shepherd Institutions, provides nursing, paramedical, and degree courses and has been functioning for 23 years with over 500 students. The graduation ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, with the Goa governor and university vice-chancellor among others in attendance. After the event, the students sought a holiday to watch the movie on its release day. The MD said, "We decided to make it into a celebration."

The MD further stressed that the screening event is for students to live their college life. "We are like a family. Students, their families, staff, and even localities will join us for the screening," he said. "I also want to believe that if we allow them to lead a college life like this, mixing fun, students will stay away from other dangerous habits like drugs."

College Connection

Interestingly, the college's landline number—080-2255 2255—matches the phone number used by Mohanlal in his blockbuster film Rajavinte Makan. The institution has booked two shows for the screening: one with 250 seats and another with 180 seats, totaling ₹1.4 lakh. The college announced its plans through a social media post, further showcasing its commitment to celebrating the release of the highly anticipated movie.
