Born on June 16, 1971, Indian film director, producer and writer is best known for his films ‘Jab We Met’ (2007), ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2009), ‘Rockstar’ (2011), and ‘Highway’ (2014). An alumnus of the University of Delhi, Ali began his directing career with TV shows ‘Kurukshetra’ and ‘Imtihaan’ (1995). His two initial directorial films namely ‘Socha Na Tha’ (2005), and ‘Ahista Ahista’ (2006) performed average. He rose to prominence with ‘Jab We Met.’ As of 2021, Ali has directed at least 12 Bollywood movies, produced at least eight movies, and has written the screenplay of over 10 Bollywood movies. Some of his other critically-lauded and commercially successful movies include ‘Cocktail’ (2012), ‘Tamasha’ (2015), ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ (2017), and ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2020). He is the recipient of one Filmfare Award, one International Indian Film Academy Award, and two Producers Guild Film Awards. He is the nephew of Pakistani TV actor and director Khalid Ahmed, and director Arif Ali.
