A recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, one of the highest civilian awards of India, Naseeruddin Shah, is a film and stage actor and director. One of the most experienced members of Hindi cinema, Shah is also known for his work in parallel cinema. He is an alumnus of the National School of Drama and the Film and Television Institute of India. In 1967, he debuted in Bollywood with the film 'Aman' starring Rajendra Kumar and Saira Banu. He caught the attention in mainstream cinema with the 1980 film 'Hum Paanch'. 'Masoom' and 'Karma' were the most important movies from the initial years of his career. Over the years, he appeared in several multi-star Bollywood movies and even did some international projects such as 'Monsoon Wedding' and 'The Great New Wonderful'. The 2003 film 'Maqbool', the Indian adaptation of 'Macbeth', was another blockbuster hit in Shah's career. He also directed several plays and movies in the industry. 'Yun Hota To Kya Hota' marked his directorial debut in films. Notably, the 2017 Shah starrer 'The Hungry' was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017. Also, he is the recipient of three National Film Awards.
