James auctions his 'Dawson's Creek' memorabilia for cancer treatment

Hollywood actor James Van Der Beek (48), known for his role in Dawson's Creek, will be auctioning off memorabilia from the show and other projects to fund his colorectal cancer treatment. The items include a necklace his character, Dawson, gave Joey (Katie Holmes's character) for prom and his outfit from the pilot episode of Dawson's Creek. The auction will take place at Propstore's Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction from December 5-7.

The proceeds from the auction will go directly to Van Der Beek, who was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer last year. The actor expressed his feelings about parting with these items, telling People, "While I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore's auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years."

In addition to his Dawson's Creek items, Van Der Beek is also selling his cleats and West Caana Coyotes Hat from the 1999 film Varsity Blues. He missed the Dawson's Creek reunion in September due to a stomach illness but recorded a video message for the event. The actor has been open about his health battle, describing living with cancer as a "full-time job."
