Did Sean 'Diddy' Combs really drink alcohol in prison?
What's the story
Sean "Diddy" Combs's spokesperson has responded to reports claiming the music mogul was caught drinking homemade alcohol in prison. The allegations surfaced after Combs (56), currently incarcerated at Federal Correctional Institution, Fort Dix (FCI Fort Dix) in New Jersey, was reportedly found with a fermented drink made from Fanta soda, sugar, and apples. However, his representative has denied these claims.
Statement issued
'His sobriety and self-discipline are priorities'
Combs's spokesperson told PEOPLE, "There have been several false and reckless reports circulating about Mr. Combs." "He has not violated any prison rules. His sobriety and self-discipline are priorities, and he is taking them seriously." The statement added that this is only his first week at FCI Fort Dix, and unfortunately, rumors will surface throughout his time there.
Public appeal
'We ask the public and the press...'
The statement further read, "We ask the public and the press to give him the benefit of the doubt, the privacy to focus on his personal growth, and the grace to move forward in peace." A statement shared on Combs's official X account over the weekend also echoed this sentiment, calling the reports "completely false." The post emphasized that his only focus is on becoming a better version of himself and returning to his family.
Legal proceedings
Combs was sentenced to 50 months in prison
In October, Combs was sentenced to 50 months in prison after being found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in July. He was transferred from Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn (MDC), where he had been detained since his 2024 arrest, to FCI Fort Dix on October 30. The next day, the first photo of Combs in prison was released, showing him in the yard of the facility.
Transfer request
His transfer was requested citing access to drug rehabilitation program
Combs's legal team had requested his transfer from MDC to the New Jersey facility, a low-security prison located on a military base about 64km outside Philadelphia. They cited better access to drug rehabilitation programs at Fort Dix as one of the reasons for their request. US District Judge Arun Subramanian, who sentenced Combs, has recommended that he be considered for any available substance-abuse program.
