Dwayne Johnson to produce live-action movie on Medusa
What's the story
Disney is developing a new live-action film based on the Greek myth of Medusa, reported Deadline. The project is being written by Michael Montemayor, known for Tangled. It will be developed by Dwayne Johnson's Seven Bucks production company under their deal with Disney. The story will center around Medusa, one of the three Gorgon sisters who had snakes for hair and could turn anyone who looked at her into stone.
Mythology
How Medusa was depicted in earlier films
In Greek mythology, Medusa was beheaded by Perseus.
This story has been depicted in both the 1981 film Clash of the Titans and its 2010 remake, although with different interpretations of Medusa's character.
The Roman poet Ovid later gave a more tragic spin, portraying her as a beautiful maiden cursed for desecrating Minerva/Athena's temple after being seduced by Neptune/Poseidon, according to Dark Horizons.

What to expect from the upcoming film
While the specifics of Montemayor's interpretation are not yet known, it is expected to be a unique take on the Greek mythological figure.
The film will be produced by Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Matt Smith.
Meanwhile, Johnson's upcoming acting projects include Jumanji: Open World and Lizard Music.
