Emmys 2024: 'Shogun,' 'Hacks,' 'The Bear' lead winners' list
The 76th Emmy Awards were held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday. This marked the second Emmy ceremony within a year, following the delayed 2023 event due to WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The awards show was hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy, both previous Emmy recipients. FX's historical drama series Shogun emerged as a major winner, bagging the award for Outstanding Drama Series among its four wins.
'Shogun' and 'Hacks' dominated drama and comedy categories
In addition to Outstanding Drama Series, Shogun also secured awards for Best Lead Actor, Actress, and Directing. The comedy category saw Hacks named as Outstanding Comedy Series. Jeremy Allen White from The Bear won Best Lead Actor in a Comedy, with his co-stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Colon-Zayas winning Best Supporting Actor and Actress respectively. Christopher Storer received the award for Best Directing in a Comedy for his work on The Bear.
'Baby Reindeer,' 'True Detective: Night Country' shone in limited series
Netflix's Baby Reindeer was another highlight of the night, winning Outstanding Limited Series. Richard Gadd, its writer, won his first Emmy for this show and also secured Best Lead Actor in a Limited Series. Jodie Foster from HBO's True Detective: Night Country received the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Limited Series. The award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series or Movie went to Steven Zaillian for his work on Ripley.
Other notable winners at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards
In the variety categories, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver won Best Scripted Variety Series. The award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special was given to Alex Edelman for Just for Us. The Daily Show bagged the award for Outstanding Talk Show. Will Smith received the award for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series for his work on Slow Horses, while Frederick E.O. Toye won Best Directing in a Drama Series with Shogun.
