'Superman' character Jimmy Olsen gets HBO Max series
What's the story
HBO Max has officially greenlit The People v. Gorilla Grodd, an eight-episode mockumentary series centered on Daily Planet staffer Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo). The show will have a lighter tone than other DC Universe offerings. It will follow Olsen as he investigates whether the superintelligent ape "Gorilla Grodd was wrongly convicted in one of Metropolis's most famous murder trials."

Cast and crew of the series
Actor Jimmy Tatro will play Grodd, with Gisondo reprising his role from the 2025 film Superman.
Other cast members include Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.
Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Arian Moayed, Dan Perrault, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz are also part of the ensemble.
The series will be created by American Vandal creators Perrault and Tony Yacenda, who will serve as showrunners.

DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran expressed their excitement over the new series.
They said in a statement, "Between Skyler's wonderful performance and the fantastic chemistry of the Daily Planet cast, we knew coming out of Superman that this would be a fun world to explore."
"We're excited to work with the brilliant Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda to take the audience down some of the darker and funnier streets and alleyways of the DCU."
