Kamal Haasan's latest film, Thug Life, just got slapped with a ₹25 lakh fine from the National Multiplex Association.
The reason? The movie was planned to hit OTT platforms sooner than expected, before finishing its promised eight-week run in theaters, breaking the original contract after ticket sales didn't go as planned.
Film fell short of expected box office numbers
Thug Life earned ₹93 crore worldwide—falling short of the usual ₹100 crore target for big Tamil films.
Things got tougher when Karnataka banned the film over Haasan's comments, hurting its regional earnings.
To top it off, their original ₹130 crore Netflix deal had to be renegotiated at a lower price, adding to the challenges for the makers.
