Kangana Ranaut to launch production house by 2020: Details here
After donning the hat of a director with the film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, that released this year, Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut is all set to roll out her own production house. In a recent interview, the 32-year-old revealed that her production house, dubbed Manikarnika Films, will open next year. Kangana also talked about her last film Judgementall Hai Kya's commercial failure.
'Judgementall' would have been a blockbuster without me: Kangana
Citing the example of her latest silver screen outing, Judgementall Hai Kya, Kangana explained how eliminating big stars and shrinking the production budget could benefit a film's box office prospects. "If Judgementall Hai Kya was made without me on a budget of Rs. 10 crore, it would have been a blockbuster at Rs. 40 crore. However, it just about broke even," Kangana told Mid-Day.
By the way, what went wrong with 'Judgementall'?
Released in July, Judgementall Hai Kya failed to make a mark at the box office. The film was repeatedly marred by controversies even before its release. To recall, during the promotions of the film, Kangana engaged in an ugly verbal spat with a journalist. Subsequently, Entertainment Journalists' Guild of India announced a media boycott of the film and demanded a public apology from Kangana.
I want to produce a few small-budget films, Kangana revealed
Expressing her desire to start producing small-budget films, Kangana further said, "I want to [back] a few small films and see how that goes. Eventually, I may do something on a bigger level." The Queen actor, however, clarified that she will not be acting in these films. Notably, Manikarnika Films will open in Khar, and shall also venture into digital content.
"There's so much new talent that needs a platform"
"My office will be ready by January. Simultaneously, we're readying our projects. There are so many good scripts that come and the [makers] want me to feature in them. But there's so much new talent that needs to be given platform," Kangana informed the daily.
Kangana to be seen in 'Panga', 'Dhaakad', Jayalalithaa biopic
Meanwhile, as an actor, Kangana will soon be seen in Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's sports drama film Panga. It is slated to release on January 24, 2020. She is also working on Thalaivi, a biopic based on the life of late actor-turned-politician and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. That apart, she also has an action film, titled Dhaakad, in the pipeline.
