What's the story

Filmmaker Karan Johar has been a long-time admirer of SS Rajamouli. In a recent interview with Komal Nahta, he spoke about his "obsession" with the director and also revealed that he was the one who approached Rajamouli to collaborate on Baahubali. The filmmaker also expressed disappointment over the failure of Eega's Hindi version and said it was not marketed properly to the audience.

Filmmaking journey

Johar is 'obsessed' with Rajamouli

Johar revealed that he is "obsessed" with Rajamouli. He said, "His first ever film is called Student No. 1, and I got the idea for my film's title Student Of The Year from the movie." "I have watched all his films." The director also revealed that it was actor Rana Daggubati who had arranged a meeting between him and Rajamouli. "I kept asking Rana about Baahubali," Johar said, adding that he knew about Rajamouli's genius even when others didn't.

Film marketing

Disappointment over 'Makkhi's failure in Hindi market

Johar also expressed his disappointment that Rajamouli's film Makkhi didn't do well in the Hindi-speaking market. He called it "one of the best films ever made" and said it wasn't marketed properly. The film was released in 2012 and stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nani.

Box office success

On his role in presenting 'Baahubali'

Johar also spoke about his role in presenting Baahubali to the Hindi audience. He said he was always a big fan of Rajamouli. "I was always a big fan, and I was very excited about presenting Baahubali. That was in many ways a game changer," he said. Johar's Dharma Productions presented the Hindi versions of both parts of the blockbuster film, which went on to become massive box office successes.
