Karisma's daughter claims unpaid university fees amid inheritance dispute

The Delhi High Court recently heard a case involving Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor's children and their stepmother, Priya Sachdev Kapur. During the proceedings, Kapoor's daughter Samaira alleged that her university fees had not been paid for two months. The court was hearing an interim injunction application filed by the children to restrain Sachdev Kapur from alienating their father, late industrialist Sunjay Kapur's assets.

Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Kapoor's children, said that as per the matrimonial decree, Kapur was responsible for paying his children's educational and living expenses. "The children's estate is with Defendant No. 1 [Sachdev Kapur], so it is her responsibility. The daughter studying in the US has not received two months' fees." However, senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing for Sachdev Kapur, denied these allegations and stated that all expenses have been duly paid.
Court's response
Court urged both sides to refrain from melodrama
Justice Jyoti Singh urged both parties not to bring such issues before the court. She asked senior advocate Shyel Trehan, who was also representing Sachdev Kapur, to ensure that such matters are handled appropriately in the future. The court said it didn't want the hearing to become "melodramatic" and placed this responsibility on Trehan. The Delhi High Court will hear the matter next on November 19.

The case is related to Kapur's will, which Kapoor and her children have challenged. They have accused their stepmother of forging the will, claiming that the businessman had "repeatedly assured" them of their share in his estate, which they say is missing from the final document. Previously, Kapoor's children had accused Sachdev Kapur of being "greedy" and labeled her a "Cinderella stepmother." The court had then directed her to provide a list of Kapur's assets. In response, Sachdev Kapur told the court that Kapoor's children have already received ₹1,900 crore from the family trust. Kapur was the founder and chairman of Sona Comstar, one of the world's leading auto parts manufacturers.
