What's the story

Kevin Spacey was dropped from the role of Frank Underwood in Netflix's original show House of Cards after he got embroiled in controversy over sexual harassment charges. News broke on December 24, that Spacey would be arraigned on felony sexual assault charges on January 7, in the Nantucket District Court. In response, the two-time Oscar winner posted a bizarre Frank Underwood-themed video.

Video details

'Let me be Frank', says Kevin

The video is titled 'Let me be Frank' an obvious pun on Spacey's attempt at honesty and the character Frank Underwood. Notably, Spacey is wearing an apron and appears to be cooking, but his voice draws on Underwood's character and he breaks the fourth wall to communicate with the audience, about his innocence and how they want him back, in House of Cards fashion.

Response

We want you back, Spacey, but after you face justice

Spacey's running theme throughout the video is how much fans love him and want him back as Frank, in the show. He speaks about how he shared his secrets, and what he shared with the fans was something special and nothing could separate them. Sure, we want Spacey back, but only after he puts on the prison jumpsuit and faces justice for his crimes!

Points

Don't rush to conclusions before testing evidence, Spacey says

Spacey raises one concern that this author has with #MeToo as well: the tendency to rush to conclusions about a person's guilt before testing the evidence. He calls the allegations 'poppycock' and pokes the fans' intelligence saying they were smarter than people who jumped to conclusions about his guilt, and said nothing in life or politics was simple, as Underwood taught them.

Personal

Is Spacey raising doubts or gaslighting fans into doubting truth?

Fans should ponder a bit on this part. Is Spacey really raising doubts about his allegations? If so, why do it through this weird video? Or, is he merely gaslighting fans into doubting the truth and accusations about him being a pedophilic sexual predator?

House of Cards

A hint at returning to 'House of Cards'

Speaking about his disgraceful send-off, Spacey hinted a return to House of Cards pointing out how the series never really showed his death. However, this writer believes, his intention was actually to make a point to the audience and his fans that hasty conclusions can be deceptive. The video makes us expect that Spacey will fight the charges against him, in court.
