What's the story
Korean producer Hyunwoo Thomas Kim, who has been working in Mumbai for nearly a decade, is reportedly interested in working with Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar. In an interview with Mid-Day, Kim revealed that he recently contacted Kumar to watch a certain Korean film for a potential Hindi remake. Here's all we know about this.
Career path
Kim's journey in Indian film industry
Kim, who has produced films like Te3n, Jaane Jaan, Blind, and Saakini Daakini, shared that he was first approached by Balaji Motion Pictures for the rights to The Devotion of Suspect X in 2014. This led him to India, where he saw potential in the market. He also won a case against the Kannada hit Pushpaka Vimana for remaking a Korean film without proper rights. It was a remake of Lee Hwan-kyung's Miracle In Cell No. 7 (2013).
New venture
Potential collaboration with Kumar
Kim said, "Just yesterday, I texted Akshay Kumar, who's in London, asking him to watch a particular film that everyone in the industry knows about. Sujoy [Ghosh] has already worked on the draft. If Akshay agrees, we have a project." This could be another interesting collaboration between Bollywood and Korean cinema.
