#ComicBytes: Five Avengers stories that fans should definitely read
  • We all love the Avengers movies, partly because of the casting but mostly because of the stories they tell.

The movies, however, don't even cover a fraction of the stories that are present in the comics.

Avengers have existed for more than half a century now and have some fantastic tales in the comics.

Here are five of the best Avengers' stories ever told.

  • Rick Jones is a Marvel character who has served as a sidekick to major superheroes like Captain America, Captain Marvel, and Hulk.

In the Avengers Forever storyline, Immortus wished to kill Rick but he was saved by Kang (Immortus' younger self). Soon, the Avengers got involved, making things interesting.

This story features a conflicted Captain America and a different leadership direction for the Avengers.

  • Young Avengers

  • Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung's Young Avengers introduced younger characters to the iconic team.

The story of Avengers: The Children's Crusade featured twin brothers Wiccan and Speed searching for a missing Scarlet Witch believing her to be their mother and had some striking revelations.

It has all the ingredients of a great narrative plus a reimagined younger cast makes it a brilliant read.

  • Avengers: Under Siege was a story that featured the polar opposites of The Avengers- Masters of Evil.

Led by Baron Zemo, the Masters including Wrecking Crew, Tiger Shark, and Goliath, tried to take over the Avengers' mansion and actually succeeded.

While the story doesn't span galaxies and multiverses, it's made interesting by an impeccable plot.

Also, it features Hercules fighting alongside Captain America.

  • Kree/Skrull War

  • The Kree/Skrull War came out in 1971 and was one of the first stories featuring epic crossovers.

In it, the Avengers get caught up in a major war between two of the biggest empires in the Marvel Universe- Skrulls and Krees.

It developed the character of Vision, detailed his relationship with Scarlet Witch, and had some important and defining Captain Marvel moments.

  • Kang Dynasty was a 16 part comic book storyline, written by Kurt Busiek, that released in 2001.

It featured Avengers' oldest and arguably most formidable villain, Kang who physically took over the world and destroyed the UN headquarters to prove a point.
