Kareena Kapoor receives legal notice for 'Bible' mention in book
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has reportedly issued a notice to Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan over the title of her 2021 pregnancy memoir, Kareena Kapoor Khan's Pregnancy Bible. The court action was triggered by a petition filed by advocate Christopher Anthony. He raised concerns about the use of the word "bible" in the book's title and accused the actor of seeking "cheap publicity."
Petitioner claims book title is 'offensive' to the Christian community
Anthony, a social worker from Jabalpur, argued that using the word "bible" in the book's title is offensive to the Christian community. He stated, "Bible is the holy book of Christianity all over the world and it is wrong to compare Kareena Kapoor Khan's pregnancy with the Bible." The book, published in 2021, chronicles Kapoor's pregnancy journey and provides advice for expectant mothers.
Legal action sought against Kapoor and the book's sellers
Justice Gurpal Singh Ahluwalia, presiding over a single-judge bench, issued the notice based on Anthony's petition. The petition calls for legal action against both Kapoor Khan and those selling her book. The court has requested a response from the Crew actor regarding the use of "bible" in her book's title. Notices have also been sent to the book's sellers, proposing "a ban" on its sale.
Previous legal actions against Kapoor Khan on the contentious title
In 2021, a Christian organization raised concerns about the title, prompting a police complaint in Beed, Maharashtra, against the actor and two others for allegedly offending religious sentiments. To note, Kapoor and her actor spouse Saif Ali Khan welcomed their son Jeh in February 2021, following their marriage in 2012. Their eldest child, Taimur Ali Khan, was born in 2016.
