What's the story

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared Aditya Dhar's upcoming film Dhurandhar as a "work of fiction," following a petition from the family of late Major Mohit Sharma seeking a stay on its release. The Delhi High Court had earlier directed the CBFC to consider the objections raised by Sharma's family and consult the Indian Army if necessary before granting clearance. After its clearance, Sharma's brother Madhur spoke to HT City and shared his views.

Family's response

'We don't know what data CBFC has relied on...'

Madhur said, "I am sure they've followed the process and they were very quick to take a decision, which is good." "We don't know what data CBFC has relied on but I'm sure they have done their due diligence. They have said that it is a work of fiction so I hope that a disclaimer will be duly added." He added that it would have been better if a screening had been arranged for their parents to ascertain the facts.

Film controversy

'Dhurandhar' trailer sparked social media comparisons

The release of Dhurandhar's trailer led to a surge in social media comparisons between Sharma's life and Ranveer Singh's character in the film. Madhur, among others, tweeted for a public clarification on this matter. Director Aditya Dhar later tweeted, denying the film was a biopic on the Major. Sharma's brother explained that the petition was filed during the 36-48-hour gap between his tweet and Dhar's response.

Family's demand

'We want people to take a sympathetic, empathetic perspective'

Madhur emphasized that the family is not seeking any personal gain from this. "There is no benefit the parents are looking for. We want people to take a sympathetic, empathetic perspective," he said. "This is not just for us but for every family that has lost a son (in military operations). We just want due diligence." Meanwhile, Dhurandhar is set for release on Friday; it has been rated 'A.'
